Paris Day 3 pt2: Movies, fashion, and a whole lot of Seine..

Reason I was bored: Some movie being filmed, and they shut down the street for 15 min intervals while they filmed some scene or other..No, I didn't bother finding out which film to track it down and watch, cause I was too over the standing and waiting. Plus, the crew member blocking pedestrians looked grumpy..

Now...let's see how long it takes me to get Day 4 up..

How the heck did I miss hearing about this movie before?????????

Guilty treat..

I won't be recommending The Secret of Moonacre, the next time someone asks for a movie rec. I won't even be rushing to watch it again myself.


But, have to say...since I *did* end up watching it, at least once, my virtue was rewarded....the costumes, at least for Maria Merryweather, the heroine, were enough to catch my breath.


Even the undies looked really cool. :p


The rest of the characters, not as much. The male counterpart, sorry, looks like a cross between The Artful Dodger, and that guy in A Clockwork Orange. Except when he was wearing a stripe across his nose, for no discernible reason.



Some of the sets were pretty amazing, too..(You can click all these pics for a much larger version to see the details properly..I really recommend it)



And the gates, I loved the gates! How neat are they??

So, yeah...if you have an hour or two to kill, and want to see some pretty eye candy (better than my lousy screencaps here), you MIGHT wander over to the kiddie aisle at Blockbuster. Just don't say I didn't warn you. :p

Green with envy..

Sometimes, you are watching a movie, and you see a costume that catches your breath, and you have to hit pause, and rewind a couple of times to get a better look, and if you REALLY want it, you might try a google to see if you can find out where you can get something like it yourself.


Or you might be one of those people who see it, want it, and then go out and MAKE it.



They do things like screencap it from all angles...track down every promo pic they can find...read all interviews that might mention it..go to exhibitions where they are and try avoid being arrested as they practically fall over the railings, trying to take better photos..



They find the original suppliers, they track down craftsmen who made certain features...in some instances, they actually form co-ops, and get one of a kind fabrics, or things, remade, so they can be as authentic as possible.



If you ARE going to try to duplicate it yourself, you can just dive in yourself, and start researching..places like the Designer forum at Craftster are a good place to get advice and/or tips to get a headstart. Or, you can head straight to sites like Costumer's Guide, or Sunday Couture..the details they come up with are phenomenal!




It's not just period costumes, either...Anyone up for knitting a pair of Bella's mittens in Twilight?? :p

So close, and then so wrong..

To the people who said I really should see The English Patient(you know who you are)...YOU SUCK!!!!! Seriously. Okay, not seriously, lol, but man, this one hit all the wrong notes! Of all my prejudices in the world, infidelity is one of my topmost, can't step around, sick to my stomach ones. Main premise of this love story?? Yupp. *sigh* And it had so much potential, too.

Does ANYONE know who did this shirt from the (really terrible) movie Bulletproof Monk???


You can click the pics for a better view, but they still stink...and they were the ONLY reasonably decent ones I could find ANYWHERE on the net!! The back of the shirt is just as cool, though...the ties loop around the back, and crisscross, looking SO cool. I WANT THIS SHIRT! :wah:

All I can figure out is that the costume designer for that film was Delphine White. But that is helping me absolutely in no way. :( Does anyone recognize it?? For their sakes, preferably because they know the designer, not because they had to sit through two hours of terrible movie?? :p
